Kyrgyzstan has a quite open visa policy for citizens from a number of countries. Please read the following instructions closely.
1. If you are a citizen from one of the following countries, you may enter Kyrgyzstan without obtaining a visa for up to 60 days:
2. If you are a citizen of one of the following countries, you can obtain a visa at any embassy of Kyrgyzstan (Google: “Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic” + your country) or upon arrival at our national airport “Manas” just outside of Bishkek:
3.a. If you are a citizen of a country that has not been listed above (#s 1 and 2), you can apply for a one-month visa at any embassy of Kyrgyzstan (Google: “Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic” + your country) if you are either a citizen or long-term resident of the following countries (click here for a list):
3.b. If your country does not have official representation from Kyrgyzstan, we advise that you call the embassy in Washington, D.C. and ask them which country’s embassy is representing Kyrgyzstan in your area. Their phone number is (202) 449 9822.
Do not e-mail the embassy in the United States as it is unlikely that they will reply. If an international phone call is too expensive, you can open an account with Skype and purchase credit, then use this account to call. International phone calls done via Skype are much cheaper.
3.c. If you are a citizen of a country that has not been listed above (#s 1 and 2), you must follow these instructions (click here).
Please do not apply for a visa at the last minute! Although officially visa applications to Kyrgyzstan should be processed within five business days, in reality it can take much longer.
If you need an official letter of invitation from inside Kyrgyzstan, you may ask for one from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications of the American University of Central Asia by e-mailing our office manager Elmira at: firstname.lastname@example.org
